The Sleeping Giant Open + Canada Day Dubs!
Brought to you by: Superior North Disc Golf, Sleeping Giant Brewery, The Loop, Disc Republic, The Mystic Garden, United Fighter and more TBA!
Superior North Disc Golf is very happy to once again be organizing The Sleeping Giant Open! Last year, the event (like everything else) was hit pretty hard by COVID-19 and when it eventually went down, the wind was an absolute force to be reckoned with. Well this year we obviously can’t control the wind but we can certainly make up for a down year with a great turnout and even better times.
A huge upgrade for the event this year is being on the Canada Day long weekend! To make it even better, we have also coupled the SGO with our annual Canada Day Doubles tournament as a fundraising warm-up event. The Canada Day doubles is always a lot of fun so to have it right next to the SGO this year is very exciting. The price of the C-Day doubles is not included with the SGO. There is an alternate Disc Golf Scene registration page that can be found in the event info above. The price is only $20 per team with non-sanctioned competitive and fun divisions. Normally the CDay doubles would be two rounds but this year we wanted to lessen the time and financial commitment for the weekend.
Rounds one and two of The Sleeping Giant Open will take place on July 2nd at Thunder Bay’s free public course; Birch Point DGC on our slightly altered version of the course’s 2.0 layout. Tee times for rounds one and two will be available a few hours after registration closes on June 30th. Round three will take place at Bayview Disc Golf Course located roughly 30 mins outside of Thunder Bay and the tee times for R3 will be available shortly after the first two rounds are completed. A full schedule will be available leading up to and throughout the tournment on the two event discgolfscene pages listed above.
Thunder Bay has many accommodations available to traveling players. Tonnes of camping, affordable hotels and comfy AirBnB options are available throughout the city and surrounding areas. Those looking for camping close to the courses could find Trowbridge or KOA Campgrounds handy for day one and Sleeping Giant Provincial Park great for day two but there are several great options in the region. Any and all players from outside the region needing any info on local courses can see our course reviews or contact us direct!
Registration is open NOW at the Disc Golf Scene link above, we are capping the tournament at 70 players for timing and organization constraints.
Come by and join the fun, grab your spot today for what is sure to be a great time on the course and off for the long weekend!
